Our Story of Overcoming
Our Story
Bellavera was born in 2014 for a reason that has nothing to do with fashion: my son.
He had been diagnosed with autism. And with the diagnosis came everything else: the therapies, the hours in the car, the weeks organized around his sessions, and a question that kept me awake at night – how was I going to pay for all of it.
I didn't have the money. And I didn't have a job that would allow me to be with him when he needed me, which was almost always. Office hours and the life we led couldn't fit into the same day. I had to find another way out, one that would allow me to take care of my son while still supporting the household.
So, I started selling dresses.
At first, there were very few, chosen one by one, with great care, because there was no room for error: every garment that didn't sell was money needed elsewhere. I prepared orders whenever I could, often at night, when the house finally settled down.
Without realizing it, I learned. To distinguish a fabric that drapes well from one that shows every imperfection. To know which cut flatters a real body and which only works on a mannequin. To understand that a woman doesn't just want a dress: she wants to feel good when she wears it. I didn't learn it in any school. I learned it because I couldn't afford to do it any other way.
Every sale was a therapy session paid for. Every good season, a moment of relief. And little by little, without a grand plan behind it, it stopped being an emergency exit and became something to be proud of.
More than ten years have passed.
Today Bellavera is a Spanish store, bigger than those first dresses, with a team behind it. But we choose exactly as we did on the first day: garment by garment, thinking of the woman who will wear it. We look for fabrics that drape as they should and last more than one summer. Cuts designed for real bodies, not for mannequins. And sizes for everyone, because we know what it's like to leave a store empty-handed.
And something hasn't changed, and never will: behind every order, there are still people. When you write to us, someone here answers you, someone who knows the garments because they have held them in their hands. When you buy, someone chooses your dress, folds it, and prepares it for you.
Every one of those purchases, throughout all these years, has sustained this story. The story of a mother who couldn't afford therapies and decided to find a way.
Thank you for being a part of it.
Bellavera. So the mirror smiles back at you.
